An arrest warrant has been issued in connection with the theft of a carved wooden Jersey Devil statue that sat outside Lucille’s Ranchonet in Warren Grove, New Jersey.
The iconic statue was stolen from a Route 539 eatery on Friday night.
Stafford Township Police Department announced. A warrant has been issued against Thomas L. Binz, 52, of Ohio, on charges of fourth-degree criminal mischief and third-degree theft. Binz had not been arrested as of Tuesday, police said.
Surveillance footage Friday night appears to show an SUV towing a platform carrying a Jeep driving past the statue.
The owners of Luciles Ranchonet announced the theft on Saturday with photos on their Facebook page and urged anyone with information about the missing statue to contact them.
“We hope he’ll be back,” the post read. “He holds great sentimental value, not just for us, but for our guests.”
This resulted in an outpouring of support from the community, and the post was shared nearly 4,000 times on Facebook. A video of the incident was later added, as well as a photo of the statue’s wing, which was broken off during the run and left in the gravel parking lot.
“Even if returned, he would never be in a condition to display again,” the owners wrote of the statue.

Luckily, the original artist of the statue contacted the owner about making a replacement.
“He was very upset when he saw what happened to his custom order.
