PSPCA rescues 74 dogs from Kensington home
Kensington County, Philadelphia (WBRE/WYOU) – Law enforcement teams from the Pennsylvania SPCA announced Thursday that more than 70 dogs have been removed from Kensington homes over concerns about the animals’ health.
The PSPCA animal law enforcement team removed 73 Chihuahuas and one Rottweiler from a Kensington home on Thursday, May 11, due to concerns about the dog’s welfare, according to a press release.
PSPCA officials said they were contacted by Philadelphia police about a large number of dogs at the Kensington home on the 1900 block of North Oriana Street.
Philadelphia police had issued an order on another matter involving individuals in the home, according to a statement. When officers entered the house, they said they found what they believed to be about 40 dogs living in unsanitary conditions in a tenement house.
A PSPCA team rushed to the scene immediately after being contacted and said they found almost double the number of dogs, bringing the total number of canine teeth removed to 74.
The PSPCA said the dogs were removed from the premises due to concerns about unsanitary living conditions and lack of veterinary care, in addition to the large number of dogs. In the city of Philadelphia, he is allowed to have no more than 13 spayed/neutered dogs, or no more than 2 unaltered dogs, i.e., not spayed/neutered, in one home. increase.
The PSPCA said the dogs underwent a forensic examination and were brought to its headquarters in Philadelphia to be cared for by the shelter’s medical team. Owners handed over all animals to the PSPCA after a physical examination. Dogs can be put up for adoption.
