Pennsylvania Democrats Introduce Bill on Hair Discrimination

(WHTM) — Two state Democrats, including House Speaker Joanna McClinton, are implementing the CROWN Act in Pennsylvania.

The bill would ban hair discrimination in the workplace, which McClinton said people of color, especially black women, face all the time.

This is the third time McClinton has introduced the bill. More than 20 states have passed versions of the Crown Act, and Pennsylvania needs to do more, she said.

“As a law student, I was very focused on how I wore my hair and was it professional? I’m not the only person of color struggling with this problem.” And like many other groups, I want to make sure this is the case once and for all so that everyone feels welcome,” McClinton said.

The bill does not apply to schools or sports, but McClinton said he hopes the bill will stimulate similar standards in those areas.
