No. 2 Ohio State University took advantage of a big fourth quarter to overtake No. 13 Penn State University.

STATE COLLEGE — Second-placed Ohio State, with Penn State in check for most of the afternoon, scored two touchdowns in 34 seconds in the fourth quarter and Nittany scored before 108,433 at Beaver Stadium. They held back the Lions 44-31.

No. 13 Pennsylvania State (3-2 Big Ten, 6-2) took a 21-16 lead on Caytron Allen’s 1-yard touchdown run with 9:26 remaining before the Buckeyes (5-0, 6-2) took a 21-16 lead. 8-0) quickly answered with Trebillon Henderson’s 41-yard burst and CJ Stroud’s 24-yard pass to tight end Cade Stover to secure the lead.

Stroud’s only TD pass was recovered by Ohio State after JT Tsui Moroau sacked Sean Clifford and forced a fumble.

Jake Pinnegar kicked a 44-yard field goal to cut it to 30-24, and with 5:49 left Ohio State scored again on Henderson’s 7-yard run, making it their first 71 against a Big Ten opponent since 2014. Improved to -5.

Tui Moroau scored on a 14-yard interception return with 2:42 remaining.

A 15.5-point underdog, Penn State gave the Buckeyes their toughest test of the season, but they lost 11 straight times to top 10 teams and fell to Ohio State for the sixth straight year.

Clifford threw three interceptions and lost a fumble that Ohio State converted to 24 points. He had three interceptions in Penn State’s first seven games.

After the Lions used a 13-play, 75-yard drive to lead off Allen’s TD, the Buckeyes outscored them 28-3 for the rest of the season.

Henderson exploded down the middle, passing Jair Brown to the end zone on a 41-yard run to give Ohio State a 23–21 lead with 8:51 remaining. Prior to that run, Henderson had been held to 23 yards on 11 carries.

Then, after Clifford lost the football, Stroud found Stover who broke two tackles en route to the end zone.

Stroud completed 354 yards on 26-of-33 passes, and Marvin Harrison Jr. received 10 for 185 yards.

Clifford finished 47-32 for 371 yards and three touchdowns, but his four turnovers stand out. Parker had a sensational day in Washington, where he caught 11 passes for 179 yards and achieved 1 TD.

Penn State scored on Clifford’s 5-yard TD pass to Allen with 1:12 remaining.
