New townhouses aimed at supporting affordable housing open at State College

State College, Pennsylvania (WTAJ) – A newly renovated townhouse on Old Ballsburg Road in State College will soon open as authorities hope to provide affordable housing options for State College families. will be ready for residents.

Residents can’t enter until March, but visitors and local officials stopped by for the open house. This project is a collaborative effort by the State College Borough, Center County, State College Community Trust, and Home Foundation.

State College Mayor Ezra Nanes said, “It’s not just about affordable housing, it’s about affordable living.” “It’s not just buying a house, but what really matters in the long run is the cost of living in it.”

All 8 homes sleep 2 to 6 people and are completely renovated with new furniture and energy efficient appliances and heating systems.

“When you think broadly about our community and our goals, sustainability and inclusivity are two very fundamental goals that we have,” said Nanes. “And this really speaks for itself, because we have energy efficient, inclusive housing.”

Morgan Wasikonis, executive director of Homes Foundation and Housing Traditions, said: “And what that means is people can afford to live and work at state universities.”

Wasikonis said he liked the townhouse’s convenient location.
