March 24 (Friday) Local high school baseball/softball results

In Friday’s Colonial League baseball action, Sam Mauro hit pinch runner Wes George with one out in the bottom of the eighth inning as Northwestern Lehi secured a 4-3 extra-inning win over Salisbury.

Austin Eisenhardt doubled to start the winning rally and was replaced by George on base. Canon Fitch had a single in the eighth inning before Mauro’s big hit.

Three Tigers pitchers, Chase Moyer, Josh Richman, and Sean O’Donnell, combined five batters and 10 strikeouts. Salisbury’s Tommy Loveridge and Owen Vogel combined to keep Northwestern to four hits.

Palmerton 10, Katasoka 7

A 4th inning of 6 runs opened the game for the Blue Bombers. Trey Sterling had his four hits and knocked out by four runs. Jacob Grams had two hits and three RBIs. Hunter Reitz had two hits, two runs scored and two RBIs for the Roughriders.

Bangor 8, Wilson 6

The Slaters trailed 6-3, scoring three in the sixth and two in the seventh. With Blake Cornafell hitting his two and Dylan Keith, Rydell Hunter and MJ Siu hitting his two, Bangor started 3-0 from a 9-12 record last season.

The Palisades beat Northern Lehigh 18-4, while Saucon Valley defeated Notre Dame Green Pond 5. No other information.

EPC Baseball

Nazareth 14, Pleasant Valley 2

Jake Dalley hit a three-run homer, struck out four at the plate, and worked five strong innings on the mound as the Nazareth recorded their second straight win. Dally also hit an RBI double, and David Bartz hit a three-run homer on a four RBI day. Preston Warne added an unbased home run. Dally allowed nine strikeouts, one walk, and four hits.

EPC Softball

Stroudsburg 19, East Stroudsburg North 0

The Mounties came out victorious on a three-inning mercy rule. Mandy Gitzo led the offense with 2 RBIs on 4 for 4, and Melissa Safin added 3 hits. Dots Elko went 2-for-2 and he had 3 RBIs and 2 stolen bases. Hannah Helm and Vanessa DeFalco combined five strikeouts to seal the shutout as Stroudsburg improved to his 1-1.

Northampton 6, Cuttstown 2

Emma Fraley had two hits in the at-bat, including a double, and struck out five times with two batters, giving the Konkrete Kids the non-league victory. Angela Fisher, Nicole Yellen and Hannah Duer each had two hits for Northampton (2-0).

Whitehall 9, Easton 4

Both Hayley Bartosh and Kate Yadush hit doubles and a home run for a combined seven RBIs and the Zephyrs won at EPC Road. Kathy Aquino kept the distance and had no earned runs on just his three hits. She issued no walks and hit a 4.

Bethlehem Catholic 21, Allentown CCHS 0

Mia Van Fleet Mia was the winning pitcher under the 3-inning mercy rule. She gave up one of her hits in her seven strikeouts and no one walked. She also walked twice, hit and knocked with three runs.

Nazareth 9, Pleasant Valley 2

As the Blue Eagles bounced back from a season-opening loss to the Liberty, freshman Avery Kaufman threw four hitters with 14 strikeouts and Arena Weaver hit a two-run home run. Natalie Cloros had his 2 hits, 2 runs scored, Lily Moretti his 3 RBI and his 3 RBI.

Liberty 14, Allen 0

The Patriots improved to 3-0 with a 4½ inning win. Maia D’Amico tripled her and recorded three doubles. Daniela Guzzo and Julia Heinemann doubled and had two RBIs, while Randy Guman and Maddy Cooper had two RBIs and two runs scored respectively. Namelia Duro and Brooke Rummel achieved her nine strikeouts in one hitter.

Colonial League Softball

Palisades 3, Northern Lehigh 1

Pirates sophomore Carly Temann had a no-hitter earlier in the week, followed by a five-hitter against the Bulldogs. She recorded her 2 of her 5 hits for the team, including a home run, with her 3 walks and 5 strikeouts. Hayley Fenstermaker had two of her Northern Lehigh hits. The Palisades improved to 2-0 while the Bulldogs fell to 1-2.

Palmerton 10, Katasoka 8

Five different Blue Bombers hit home runs with 15-hit offense. Sidney Franz was one of Palmerton’s players to hit a home run. She gave her three hits and scored three runs. Megan Matsuko hit a home run on his three hits and scored two of his runs. Other home runs were hit by Haley Barry, Emily Christopher, and Haley Delgado. Curly Gaffney had his four hits, two walks and seven strikeouts as Palmerton improved to his 3–0.

Northwestern Lehi 10, Salisbury 0

Abby Dunstan and Isabel Akelaitis both doubled, and Riley McGinley had three hits and three RBIs, giving the Tigers their third straight win of the season. Marissa Christman added his two hits, including a double. Elizabeth Carney had two hits and one walk for the Falcons.

Saukon Valley 5, Notre Dame 4

Matty Sayfriend was the winning pitcher as Emma Meininger hit a two-run homer and the Panthers improved to 2–0.

Bangor 9, Wilson 7

Trailing 7-6, the Slaters hit 3 runs in the top of the 7th to clinch the road win. Jaelyn Silfies hit a home run and was one of four Slaters with two RBIs. Christina Langdon, Brooke Hermanski and Kyrina Gonzalez all scored two runs for the Slaters in their season opener loss to the Palisades.
