Local 7-year-old Ricky Cook takes part in professional motocross racing, KTM Junior Supercross

Salem, Ohio (WKBN) — He’s not even 10 yet, but he’ll soon be treated like a factory and pro Supercross rider. Ricky Cook is from Canfield. He’s done hundreds of races, but next month’s race in Arizona is special for several reasons.

Seven-year-old Ricky has been racing for four years, but he was destined for dirt tracks from birth.

“They call Ricky ‘RC4’ because he’s the fourth generation Richard Cook,” said Ricky’s father, Rick Cook.

“Yeah, and I’m named after Ricky Carmichael,” said Ricky.

“And I’m also his number [#4]said Ricky.

Ricky became interested in motocross after looking it up on YouTube. Currently he participates in about 200 races. On April 8th he will be treated like a pro as he races his KTM Junior Supercross at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona.

“They treat us like factories. [professional] I’m a rider for the day,” said Ricky.

Ricky is the only one going from the area. However, he is not open to everyone. To participate, you must submit a race video, resume, and grades.

“We’re going to be like gear and helmets and you can ride this bike like this. It’s electric,” Ricky said.

This is another interesting part of the KTM Junior Supercross. Ricky has ridden an e-bike in three or four races so far. When he’s not riding he’s a petrol Cobra he’s riding a motorcycle.

“It’s not that loud,” said Ricky.

Reporter Brandon Jace: “Do you have a preference or do you like both?”
Ricky: “both”

Until the big race, Ricky keeps tearing it up at the Western Reserve Motorcycle Club track where he trains.

Ricky: “After that, I’m going to Florida.”
Jace: “Another race?”
Ricky: “No, it’s our vacation. So it’s basically like getting two vacations.”

Ricky’s parents say the racing community is like family and there is always someone there to help.

Ricky says he likes jumping and his favorite racer is Jett Lawrence.
