Lakemont Lions Club Holds Memorial Service at Veterans Memorial

Altoona, PA (WTAJ) – The Lakemont Lions Club held a memorial service Saturday morning at the Lakemont Veterans Memorial.

Members gathered at a monument inscribed with the names of 267 people who served their country. The service included the presentation of wreaths and tap performances by members of the Pennsylvania Blue Band. This year marks the 80th anniversary of the monument’s construction.

“I was personally reminded that I may not like everything that is happening in the world today, that I may not like everything that is happening in our government today, but the United States is still the best “In this world,” said John Blackie, speaking at the service.

Blackie said people should always find moments to remember the sacrifices others have made for their freedom.
