Hatboro-Horsham’s DiCola Wins 3A Title – thereporteronline

Hatboro-Horsham senior Brian DiCola completed his four-year quest on Saturday to win the state title at the PIAA-3A championship in Hershey.

Dicolla won the grueling Hershey Course in 15:25, beating closest rival Butler’s Drew Griffiths in 15:36.

DiCola was also the first of five runners in District 1 to finish in the top 10 and the first of eight to finish in the top 25.

That honorable list included Upper Dublin’s Matt Castronuvo, who finished 10th in 16:32.

DiCola was second to Griffith in the first and second miles, but made a move in the third.

La Salle earned state runner-up honors led by Drew Brill (7th, 16:29) and Ryan McGinley (22nd, 16:57).

District One Champ North Penn performed solidly, placing fourth in a field of 20 teams.

The Knights moved up to 31st place at 17:08 as freshman Justin Landis picked up the pace.

Hatboro-Horsham’s Emily Simko surged to 12th place in the Class 3A Women’s, crossing the finish line in 19:15.1.

The seniors had a great final race at Hershey.

Teammate Lillian DiCola, a sophomore, finished 16th, finishing the grueling Hershey Course in 19:27.2.

From the region, Mount St Joe’s Ella Welke was 18th in 19:34.1 and Penridge’s Ashley Landis was 22nd in 19:47.

Jenkintown finished second as a Class A Boys team, ahead of the other 21 teams with 108 points.

Central Cumbria won the title with 95.

Drakes had a brilliant run, with junior Jesse Patterson setting the pace in 17:33.7.

Jenkintown was just 1:14 behind the 1st and 5th runners.

Oliver Michelle (12th), Isaac Mixon (26th), Dennis Turin (27th) and John Byler (37th) also put up strong competition for Drakes.

In the 2A Girls, freshman Gwen Hamilton of Archbishop Wood rounded out the top 25 with a 22nd place finish in 20:32.1.

In the 2A Boys, another freshman, Lansdale Catholic Steven Heckler, finished 38th in 17:40.5.
