The crew was dispatched to a hotel on the 100th block of N. Main Street shortly after 6:30 am. Star Horse Company #1 said in a Facebook post that there had been reports of people trapped in the hotel.

Coudersport Volunteer Fire Department chief Bryan Phelps said between 100 and 125 firefighters had been called to the scene.

Phelps said the fire was contained and five people were taken to the emergency room, but the extent of their injuries is unknown.

Hotel Crittenden says on its Facebook page that the current hotel was built in 1891 and that “most of the structure is still original.”

New owners took over in 2014 and have worked to improve the structure “without compromising its original beauty,” the hotel said. The Endeavor News reports that an early hotel built on the same site in 1840 was destroyed in a fire that ravaged downtown Coudersport in 1880.
