Fire at vacant Newcastle hotel under investigation
NEWCASTLE, Pennsylvania (WKBN) — Firefighters in Newcastle caught fire at an empty hotel in the downtown area on Sunday morning.
The crew headed to the site of the former center banquet facility at 3 a.m. Sunday, the fire chief said. .
The second floor was structurally compromised and eventually collapsed. There is significant structural damage and the building is considered a total loss.
The fire reignited at 7am and again at 10am. As of 2:30 PM, the fire department is still on the scene.
Crew members from the Union Township Fire Department and the Chenango Area Fire District assisted at the scene.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, and the city police and city fire department are in charge.
