Donyea Stubbs, 28, of Warren, Ohio, was charged with felony assault and was in possession of a weapon while disabled.
Warren, Ohio (WKBN) – One person is in custody after police said they opened fire on a car containing women and children.
Donyea Stubbs., 28, has been charged with violent assault and disarming a weapon.
A woman told officers that she and her child went to the Avon Oaks apartment on Southern Boulevard around 8 p.m. Tuesday and delivered clothes to Stubbs, according to a police report. As she pulled over, she saw Stubbs walking towards her with a gun in his hand.
She said she threw her clothes out the window and started backing out and pulling out of the parking lot. Reportedly, as she exited the parking lot, there was a “clatter” coming from the back of her car.
When the police arrived at the apartment, they found a pile of clothes in front of the apartment door. Officers had information that Stubbs may be at a relative’s apartment. Police went to his relative’s apartment to see if Stubbs was there, the report said.
When the relative answered the door, she told the officer that Stubbs had been there before and was unsure if he could have returned. I got a radio call saying I might have a gun inside.
The officer asked the relative a few more times if Stubbs was inside, but she said she had just got home and had no idea. The officer went to get the ballistic shield and yelled inside the apartment for Stubbs to come out. According to reports, there was no K9 at the scene, but if Stubbs was hiding inside, K9 would unleash and bite him.
Stubbs then walked out. Police say High Point found an empty magazine for his CF380 .380 ACP pistol in the right front pocket of his pants. But Stubbs told police he didn’t have a gun. Shortly after, an officer found his High Point CF380 .380 ACP pistol under a pillow loaded with a magazine. According to reports, a magazine found in Stubbs’ pocket matched one found in the gun.
Police were also reportedly able to recover a shell from a .380 ACP pistol near the area where the woman said she fired.
Stubbs was arrested and taken to the Trumbull County Jail. His relatives were also arrested on unrelated warrants.
