Derby mayor arrested on DUI charges – NBC10 Philadelphia
Upper Derby Mayor Barbaran Keffer was involved in a traffic stop Thursday night on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol, police said, resulting in her being detained by police.
At approximately 11:08 p.m., patrols from the Upper Chichester Police Department pulled up a black Keffer Toyota Corolla on Conchester Highway. Police said he had a flat tire, was unable to keep his lane, and was missing part of his front bumper.
Patrolmen wrote in an affidavit of probable cause that Keffer’s breath smelled of alcohol and that he was asked to conduct a field sobriety test. It was said that he had glass-like bloodshot eyes and an unstable balance.
Keffer failed to complete all sobriety tests and was taken into police custody due to the condition of the car. According to her affidavit, at Upper Chichester Police Headquarters, Keffer refused to fingerprint and photograph her and was released into her husband’s custody.
Keffer issued a statement confirming the closure and detention. She plans to cooperate fully with the upper she municipality of Chichester.
A judge has been assigned to the case, and the mayor is expected to attend a preliminary hearing in March.
