DCNR is establishing an “adventure center” in Potter

Potter County, Pennsylvania — DCNR plans to restore a recreational area to Denton Hill State Park in Potter County.

DCNR is seeking proposals for the development of a four-season recreational adventure center, according to State Park Service Director John Harras.

“The department is looking for a concessionaire to lease approximately 700 acres and work with the DCNR for year-round recreational activities,” Hallas said. “DCNR believes that with improved infrastructure and the right partners, Denton Hill will become an attraction that brings even more visitors to the Pennsylvania Wild Region throughout the seasons.”

Denton Hill has a downhill ski area that has been closed since winter 2014. This park was developed as a special ski area by he DCNR in the early 1950s.

The master plan, completed in 2018, included recommendations for rebranding the ski lodge as an “adventure centre.” It is more appropriate as an operational hub for a four season operation of extended activities and services beyond traditional downhill skiing.

DCNR is committing $10 million to capital improvements to support rehabilitation of the park’s recreational infrastructure.

“DCNR is happy to consider Denton Hill’s federal proposal design and capital development alternatives identified in the master plan, allowing proponents the flexibility to be as innovative as they wish,” Hallas added. .

The design phase of this project will coincide with the awarding of the concession lease agreement.

DCNR is intended to help selected concessionaires identify and prioritize improvements during the design process.
