Cumbria County Educators Protest Doug Mastriano

Cumbria County, Pennsylvania (WTAJ) – The Pennsylvania Education Association held a press conference in Cumbria County on Monday, September 12 to discuss concerns about Doug Mastriano’s education plans.

They say the proposed education plan would cut public school funding by more than $12 billion annually. They also said these cuts would result in the loss of about 119,000 jobs statewide.

Treasures of the Pennsylvania State Education Association Jeff Ney says Mastriano’s plans are detrimental to the statewide public school system.

“So you have Senator Doug Mastriano on one side who proposed cutting schools by almost half across Pennsylvania,” Ney said. “I thought this was such a huge spotlight that all communities need to share, especially here in Richland.”

Ney said the Richland school district would be forced to lose more than $4 million in funding and lose more than 40 employees.

Mastriano said on the campaign’s website that it will maintain funding for public schools and provide parents with the opportunity to send their children to the school of their choice.

Whether public, private or homeschooled.
