A look at another week of SCBL fall basketball results

The 2023-24 high school basketball season is getting closer. The official start of practice is now five weeks away, Nov. 17, and the first games are just seven weeks from now on Dec. 1.

That means the SCBL fall league is beginning to wind down. In fact, the girls division began its playoffs last Sunday at Executive Education Charter.

Here’s a look at those results from league founder and director Ed Jennings:

GIRLS DIVISION

NY Liberty 47, Chicago Sky 36 … Sofie Laird 22 for Liberty; Kendall Medina 10 for the Sky.

LV Aces 56, LA Sparks 46 … Makaela Bordner 31 for Aces; Marisa Price 14, Jayla Rosario 13 for Sparks.

The first SCBL girtls season has been competitive and it will culminate with the championship game Sunday at 4 p.m. with the Aces meeting the Liberty. The Liberty is led by Emmaus junior Sofie Laird who is as tough a competitor as I have seen. She and the Liberty face the undefeated Aces who are led by Makaela Border, a freshman at Whitehall who should be a varsity contributor this season. She had an SCBL girls record 31 points in the semifinals. Sunday’s action begins with a consolation game at 3 p.m.

NCAA DIVISION (Grades 7-9)

Georgetown 63, Virginia 54 … Darius Kohler 17 for G’town; Jaxon Loper 24 for Virginia.

Marquette 45, Notre Dame 41 … Alani Nix 14 for Marquette; Jarel Jackson 14 for Notre Dame.

Kansas State 63, Louisville 59 … Jayden Leatherbury 33 for K-State; Greg Ebert 14 for Louisville.
