(WTAJ) — First Energy/Pennelec marks a widespread power outage Friday morning as arctic temperatures and winter weather pass through our region.
First Energy’s outage map below (updated at 1:40 p.m.) shows the blackout extending south from the Maryland line to the New York state line. 38,908 customers are currently without power.
Most alerts in our region show an estimated recovery between 2pm and 5pm now. It’s important to remember that these are estimated times. You can use First Energy’s power outage map to understand power outages in your area. click here.
As temperatures drop, it’s important to stay as warm as possible with clothing, blankets, and hand warmers. Keep doors and windows tightly closed and cover yourself if you need to go out. With a wind chill of minus 20 degrees in some places, frostbite can occur within as little as 10 minutes.
In the event of a power outage, it is a good idea to save the remaining battery in your phone for emergencies.
