WCU Staging “Into the Woods” from April 20th to April 24th – Daily Local

West Chester — The Faculty of Drama and Dance at West Chester University will present “Into the Woods” in Stephen Sondheim’s Music and Lyrics, James Lapine’s book, April 20-24, 2022. Into the Woods is supervised by an associate professor at the Charlie Del Marcel Theater, Wednesday to Friday, April 20th to 22nd at 7:30 pm, and Saturday and Sunday, April 23rd and 24th, 2pm. Occasionally, it is performed at the main stage theater of the EO Bull Center. For art, 2 E. Rosedale Avenue, Westchester.

The show was the first major musical to be performed by the Department of Drama at West Chester University before the pandemic, with 20 cast members and many student engineers. This is also the first of many compliments to the late Stephen Sondheim, who died in November 2021.

Inspired by Brothers Grimm’s most popular folk tales, Into the Woods imagines what happens when a story is intertwined with a famous fairy tale character. Cinderella, Jack (famous for bean stalks), Little Red Riding Hood, and Baker and his wife went out into the woods to find a “happy after”. On their way to meet Rapunzel, an evil witch, a lascivious wolf, a vengeful giant, a charming couple of princes, and their own destiny. This beloved musical parable about the loss of innocence, the joys and sorrows of adulthood, and the price paid to get what you really want, challenges and delights audiences of all ages. It must be possible.

Charlie Del Marcel said: Stephen Sondheim’s Into the Woods is one of the most difficult scores in the canon of the modern musical theater. Very excited to sing along again, this cast really beautifully gathers and stands up on that occasion. “

He adds: Getting out of the pandemic, I think our students are working on these huge ideas in a very mature way. Also, I think the show may resonate with the audience in a slightly unusual way. “

Into the Woods will be staged in an intimate 175-seat main stage theater. Professional set designer Meghan Jones designed the seats to surround the set on three sides, allowing the audience to get closer to the action and feel more connected.

General admission ticket is $ 12 / $ 7 student https://www.wcupatix.com/theatreanddance..
