There is also a small danger of severe thunderstorms with damaging wind gusts, said Mike Grose, a meteorologist at the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, New Jersey.

“I hope we get some beneficial rain, not bad weather,” he said.

Normally, by this time of June, the Lehigh Valley should receive 1.5 inches of rain.

Rain should help improve drought conditions, but a few more significant rainfalls are needed to change the situation. Gross said the recent lack of rain has made the ground so hard that more heavy rains could wash it out.
