Two Florida lawmakers deadly shoot suspected domestic violence | Nationwide

NS. Petersburg, Florida (AP) —Two representatives of Florida Sheriffs have fatally shot a suspected domestic violence who refused an order to drop a gun, officials said Tuesday.

According to St. Petersburg Police Chief Anthony Hollowway, Pinellas County Sheriff’s agent answered a call on Monday night about a domestic dispute between a woman and her ex-boyfriend.

According to the incident report, a former boyfriend beat a woman and her teenage son as the boy tried to stop the attack.

“The child came to help his mother, but he also hit him,” Hollowway said at a press conference on Tuesday.

Parliamentarians got information about the case, and about 90 minutes later went to the man’s house and arrested him on suspicion of domestic violence and child abuse.

The man got into the car as lawmakers approached, Holloway said. They tried to confront him, but saw him with a gun. They asked him to drop his weapon, but he refused. After that, they fired at the car several times, the chief said.

According to Hollowway, a man whose name was not announced immediately died on the scene. He added that he didn’t think the man had returned the fire.

Hollowway calls lawmakers “Cpl. Hunter” and “Deputy Landsford.” He did not mention the race of the people involved.

According to Hollowway, footage from a doorbell camera at a former girlfriend’s house showed a man making suicidal ideation comments. He added that a legislator planned to approach him, but that changed when he saw him with a gun.

The woman and son were slightly injured in the attack at home, the chief said.

The shootings are being investigated by the Pinellas County Use of Force Investigation Task Force, which was formed in 2020 and is designed to prevent law enforcement agencies from investigating cases of use of force by police officers.
