Three people died on Interstate 80 at the beginning of Monday

Two vehicles collided on Interstate 80 in Carbon County, killing three people early Monday.

Deaths include a 34-year-old man from New Columbia, Union County, a 73-year-old woman from Newark, NJ, and a 36-year-old man from Passaic, NJ. , State police quoted the following of a relative’s notice.

Coroner Gerald D. Jones, Jr., said the autopsy of all three was scheduled for Tuesday morning.

According to a news release from the state police:

At 12:48 am, soldiers at Fernridge Station responded to Kidder Township’s Interstate Highway 80 Mile Marker 276 for a report of the collision. There was significant impact damage on both commercial and passenger cars.

Two passengers were found dead: a commercial vehicle driver, a man from New Colombia, and a van. Police provided medical assistance to other passengers before the emergency medical service arrived.

According to police, the van driver was suspected of drunk driving. Police did not disclose the driver’s name.

The surviving passengers were taken to the Gaisinger Wyoming Valley for treatment.

Crash investigation is ongoing.
