They are us starring Rose Byrne | Movie

Rose Byrne is to star in “They Are Us”.

The Australian actress will play New Zealand’s Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern in the next film. The film tells the story of the week after two shootings at a mosque in Christchurch, New Zealand, killed 51 people in 2019.

Andrew Niccol will write and direct the film produced by Ayman Jamal, Stewart Till, Nicole and Philippa Campbell.

We consulted with several members of the mosque affected by the attack about the script.

Nicole told the deadline: “‘They are us’ is not about the attack, but about the response to the attack. [and] How the unprecedented act of hatred was overcome by the overflow of love and support.

“This movie deals with our common humanity, so I think we’ll talk to people all over the world. This is an example of how to respond when a fellow human being is attacked.”

Ardern has been widely praised for how he handled the response to the attack, and the movie title is taken from her post-shooting speech.

However, a spokesman for the Prime Minister’s Office told The New Zealand Herald that Ardern and her government were not involved in the film.

And the Muslim Society of Canterbury is questioning whether the film is “right now.”

Spokesperson Abdigani Ali said, “We deserve to be allowed to respond to the Prime Minister’s attack, but we are skeptical about the timing and whether the movie is right now.”
