$1.5 million to improve access to fresh produce, agricultural education

Harrisburg, Pennsylvania (WTAJ) – At the PA Farms to Families Immersion Lab at the PA Farms Show, Secretary of Agriculture Russell Redding announced that the PA Farms Bill 2022-23 Farm to Schools and Agriculture would provide $1.5 million to schools and farm education programs. Nearly $1 million in Ag and Youth grants were awarded to youth organizations to advance development in the areas of agriculture, community leadership, vocational training and peer fellowships.

Approximately $536,000 in Farm to School grants were awarded to improve access to healthy local foods and increase agricultural education opportunities for children in pre-kindergarten through fifth grade.

“Young people are the future of Pennsylvania agriculture, and their access to teachers, programs, excursions, and fresh produce shapes their relationships and understanding of agriculture,” said Redding. By improving access to nutritious food and connecting students to agricultural education, we will spark renewed interest in agriculture.”

Redding and others commended the Woolf administration for its commitment to agricultural education and programs during its tenure.
