Ironically, it has provided my family with all sorts of remedies needed to ease the life of traveling our world. It provides us with a gathering place and a safe haven, roots us, strengthens family traditions, and at the same time connects us to a new culture of friends and adoption. Over 20 years ago, we bought a farm-style table in Ein, France, near the western border of Switzerland, where we lived at the time. It was the first piece of furniture that my husband and I bought together and was probably the best. Made of rustic, large-scale recycled oak, it provides a sturdy core for family and social life with a focus on food, friends and entertainment, while reflecting the charm and characteristics of 18th century Swiss farmhouses. doing.

It was warm and intimate enough for two people and vast enough to seat twelve people. It was a place for morning coffee, girlfriend chat, home office needs, and a lively dinner party. When our kids entered the photo, it provided a sturdy and forgiving canvas for homework, crafts and tea parties — nicks, scratches and spills are welcome.

Today, our table is in California and continues to be the center of family and social life. The last move we made was a local, invisible blip on the world map. But still, we did not deviate from the usual occupancy ritual, a tradition born of practice. The kitchen table was the first piece of furniture installed. Then, in the unpacking and box, I prepared a simple and cozy roast chicken dinner. This is a nutritious, timeless, reassuring meal we shared at the table.

Nothing is more pleasing than the aroma of roasted chicken. Cooking the whole bird is very easy and can be done in the oven or on the grill. Simple roast chicken

1 (4 lbs) whole chicken, stripped offal
