The Miami Heat made a rare international turn in the NBA Draft on Thursday night, with Serbian forward Nicola Yovic in 27th place.
The move to a 6’10 small forward was a bit of a surprise, as there are still prospects for universities such as Ohio State University’s forward EJ Liddell, Kentucky Guard’s Tyty Washington, and Tennessee Guard’s Kennedy Chandler.
19-year-old Jović began his basketball career late after being the first to excel in water polo.
Jobich, listed at £ 227, still needs to be filled out, but he arrives as an NBA-level 3-point shooter.
Defense was a concern for Jobic, who was thinking of setting it as a long-term development outlook, perhaps to spend time with Heat’s G-League affiliate Sioux Falls Skyforce.
Next season’s 27th pick cap hit will be $ 2.2 million.
Heat did not hold a second round pick on Thursday at the time of their 27th selection. This is because the NBA’s rules were a premature free agent contact with Kyle Lowry’s signing last summer and they lost the selection.
