Pa. Turnpike I-476 crash in Lehigh County leaves man dead

A Delaware County man died after an early morning crash on the Pennsylvania Turnpike in Lehigh County Sunday.

Lehigh County Coroner Daniel Buglio said Chad E. Condon, 47, of Prospect Park, died following a crash in Upper Milford Township about 2 a.m. Sunday.

State police said in a news release that Condon was in a 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee in the left lane near mile marker 48 of Interstate 476 when it hit the center concrete barrier on the left side of the road.

He continued traveling north and hit the concrete barrier a second time, causing the vehicle to cross all northbound lanes. It hit the guide rail on the right shoulder before coming to a rest in the left lane near mile marker 49, according to the release.

A 2002 Chevrolet S10 going northbound then hit Condon’s vehicle, prompting it to spin in a clockwise direction. It then hit the guide rail on the right side again before coming to a rest.

Condon, the only person in his vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene about 4 a.m.

The driver and the passenger of the S10 were taken to Lehigh Valley Hospital for their injuries.

Buglio’s office determined Condon’s cause of death was blunt force injuries from a motor vehicle collision, with the manner accidental.
