I-80 West closed from Exit 273 to Exit 262

Lucerne County (WBRE/WYOU)— An asbestos spill in Lucerne County has closed several miles west of Interstate 80.

Officials say the I-80W was closed around 10:45 p.m. due to the crash about four miles east of Exit 262.

The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection says emergency response teams are responding to the crash.

According to Colleen Connolly, the trailer was carrying material containing asbestos that was spilled on the road.

Crew members are working to clean up the spill.

The crash is under investigation by the Pennsylvania State Police.

Pennsylvania State Police say one person involved in the crash had to be airlifted to a nearby medical facility with “suspected serious injuries.”

According to PennDOT, the estimated reopening time is 6 p.m.
