The Divisional Round of the NFL playoffs saw a number of older, experienced quarterbacks leave the race for the Super Bowl, while the youngsters took over and won their games. It has been coming for a while, but are we now finally seeing a changing of the guard for NFL quarterbacks?

It is Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs that lead the way in the race to lift the Vince Lombardi Trophy. As of January 27, the latest NFL betting has them at +110 favorites to win that, easy to see why when you consider Mahomes’ quarterback play. Given their ability and the way in which Mahomes led his team past an excellent Buffalo Bills team, plus their past experience at this stage, it is highly likely that the Kansas City Chiefs will feature heavily in any NFL tips for today and throughout the season.

Elsewhere, the LA Rams, led by Matthew Stafford are second favorites, after he showed great character and composure to help his team fight back and win against Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Other than Stafford, the other three quarterbacks, two of them especially, are a real sign that the guard is changing.

Brady and Rodgers Fail to Qualify

The biggest reason why it appears as though the guard is changing is that the older end is out of the playoff race because the youngsters are shining. The LA Rams defeated Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, knocking out one of the game’s superstars.

Brady’s absence from the final four is not something that we are used to seeing, he has been a regular in the Championship games during his long career. It was the same fate for another NFL superstar as the San Francisco 49ers defeated the Green Bay Packers and Aaron Rodgers. In a low-scoring game, the 49ers won 13-10, scoring a field goal with the last play of the game to dump Rodgers and his team out.

With these two out of the way, the makeup for the final four as we head into the Championship round looks very different from what we are used to seeing.

New Stars Rising to the Top

While Matthew Stafford is a little old to be called a new star, and Jimmy Garoppolo is 30 and with a very unique style, the other two quarterbacks at this stage can certainly be considered capable of taking over and dominating the NFL. Patrick Mahomes has already been there and done it before, winner of the Super Bowl in 2020, and losing finalist to Brady in 2021. This won’t be the last time he leads the Chiefs to their Championship game, expect to see him at this stage for the most part of the next decade.

Joe Burrow is the other exciting name, with an incredibly strong arm and a growing band of weapons to use in Cincinnati. These two are part of a group of NFL quarterbacks that are changing the guard and taking over.
