Boardman, Ohio (WKBN)-If you’re looking for a delicious and unique spread for Big Game Sunday, check out the first annual Super Bowl Sundae Gyro and Souvlaki fundraising sale at the Orthodox Church of St. John.

Pre-order is possible online You can choose from a designated time frame for pick-up at the church on Sunday. Church members bring orders directly to the vehicle with minimal contact.

“We wanted to give back to the community. We wanted to provide a little extra for the Super Bowl Sundae party, so Souvlaki, Baklava, and Gyro watched the game and did various activities. I hope it helps when you do, “says Andrew Rosco. Event chairman.

The proceeds from the fundraising activities will be used to maintain the church.

“This will support many of the general operating costs of the church,” Olelogos said. “We need a new roof, so it’s mainly aimed at roof renovations, and it also helps to reach out to the community, like a monthly community meal.

Before the coronavirus pandemic, church fundraising attracted a large number of people. Instead, we’re moving to an online format this year.

So far, nearly 250 pre-orders have been submitted online.

“We sell souvlaki, gyro and baklava,” Rothko said. “Souvlaki is actually a grilled pork served in pita with chopped onions, chopped tomatoes and Greek cucumber sauce. Our gyro is lamb and beef with the same toppings, chopped onions and tomatoes. , Greek yogurt sauce. ”

St. John’s invites community members to raise money for the Seafood Fest every Friday. From February 19th to April 2nd.
