Belgrade, Serbia (AP) — Serbian police say they are endangering a successful coronavirus vaccination drive in the Balkans country, a famous Serbian doctor and other voice vaccination activists asked Thursday. I brought you.

According to Serbian state television, psychiatrist YOBANA Stojkovic, a leading figure in the country’s vaccine repellent movement, has been accused of spreading “fear and panic” in social media and publicly. He was taken to the Belgrade police station.

Stojkovic, who heads a small party on the far right, frequently expresses plots against vaccination.

At least five people, including a former Serbian women’s basketball player, were reportedly cross-examined by police for a clear crackdown on the expansion of Serbian vaccination campaigns.

Serbian Justice Minister Maja Popovic said the Interior Ministry and state prosecutors are acting in accordance with the law.

“All perpetrators of criminal activity must be dealt with, especially if it threatens public health,” the statement said.

Stojkovic, released by police late in the afternoon, greeted dozens of supporters with a banner stating “Stop COVID fascism.”

Serbia has one of the highest inoculation rates in Europe, largely due to the large purchases of China’s China National Pharmaceutical and Russia’s Sputnik V vaccine by the government. The Balkans also use vaccines developed by Pfizer-BioNTech and Oxford-AstraZeneca.

More than 2 million of Serbia’s 7 million people have been vaccinated at least once so far, but in Serbia the number of people enrolled in jabs has declined significantly. Authorities and doctors are linking drop-offs to the increasingly loud anti-vaccine movement.

Thousands of vaccine seekers from neighboring countries of Serbia flocked to Belgrade last month after authorities provided foreigners with free jabs for all who appeared. They all received AstraZeneca jabs that faced an expiration date due to lack of interest in the vaccine among Serbs.

In Serbia, a pandemic has killed more than 5,300 people.
