Caliente head chef Eric von Hansen won first place in the non-traditional pizza category at the world’s largest pizza trade fair in Las Vegas last month. Grounds & Hounds Coffee Co.x Don’t leave your dog behind

Uighur Whiskey x Pen Brewery

Made by distilling Oktoberfest beer from Penn Brewery, this delicious spirit is reminiscent of Scotch whiskey and boasts fresh sugar cane, candied orange peel and lemon notes. On Thursday, September 23, Wigle will be hosting a free sample tasting of whiskey at the distillery from 5 pm to 7:30 pm. This collaboration isn’t the only release on Wigle this month. Wigle also announced the arrival of Honey Bourbon, a release that includes live music from Bedillion Farms, honey-inspired food, and honey tasting from 4:30 pm to 8:30 pm on Thursday, September 30th. Hold a party.

Commonplace Coffee x Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy

Commonplace and Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy have announced a new autumn blended coffee as part of a collaboration focused on regional parks. River View Park Blend is available from the first day of autumn to mid-November. The coffee is described as having notes of honey and caramel, and the blending ingredients include El Salvador’s El Agua Catarrh.

The best thing I ate this week

Tofu Mokekka Casa Brazil.. After starting Yuka Fry and Paode Keijo as an appetizer, I ordered tofu mokekka (mo-KEH-kah) as a main dish. Tofu Mokekka is a plain tofu made by boiling peppers, tomatoes, coriander and onions in coconut milk. Serve with white rice and farofa. The presentation was really good and the taste was delicious.

Creamy coconut milk was just right for boiling tofu, and its greasy richness covered my tongue, deepened by the spices and texture of the vegetables. Since tofu is not fried food, it absorbs all milk and seasonings and is rich in flavor. I usually think peppers add nothing to the dish, but these added a layer of lightness to the density of the milk. Coriander also gave the dish a delicate bite. White rice was well seasoned, tender and the perfect medium for pouring golden coconut milk. -Staff writer, Dani Janae
