Sometimes it’s sad and pleasant to get into your feelings wearing the most mopi song you can think of. With this feeling in mind, Andrea Laurion and Matthew Buchholz created Sad Karaoke, a night where you can meet with the city’s most moody people and sing your favorite heart wrench.
After the successful first event on March 19th, Sad Karaoke will be back on Saturday, April 30th. Golden Age Beer Co., Ltd. At Homestead. This event not only provides people with offensive tracks at other karaoke nights, but also raises funds for various local and national organizations.
In a press release, Buchholtz said at the last event he raised $ 337 for RAINN, or a national network of rape, abuse and incest, a non-profit organization that opposes sexual assault.
“We had a great turnout. 60-70 people played for over 3 hours,” best known for DJing the pop art company’s history-changing and popular dance party In Bed By Ten. Buchholz adds.
At the time, the $ 5 donation tip encouraged by Sad Karaoke benefits Write Pittsburgh, a local group that amplifies the author’s voice and gives them the opportunity to lead workshops and read.
Sad karaoke is a good time for everyone involved, but there are rules for attending, says Buchholtz.
The first rule is that the song must be sad. What makes up a sad song is fairly universally known. But if you’re not sure, there are plenty of sad song playlists on the streaming platform that you can pull. The problem with what makes up a sad song is “at the discretion of the host”.
Other rules include “no irony”. The point of the event is to be emotional in front of friends and strangers. So don’t stand up there and make a joke.
In addition, Sad Karaoke is operated on a “first come, first served” basis. The song sign-up sheet goes up at 6 pm and the song starts at 7 pm. The singer recommends the following:
Keep their song about 5 minutes.
Finally, check YouTube to make sure the song you selected has a karaoke version.
