(Center Square) – A group of 19 Republican governors sent President Joe Biden a letter calling on the administration to increase access to infant formula nationwide.

The Letter urges The Biden administration will take various actions to make powdered milk cheaper and more accessible. The letter tells Biden to reduce tariffs, import quotas, and other trade barriers that prevent infant formula from entering the country. In addition, the letter calls on the FDA to update its labeling standards for infant formula from abroad.

The governor wants to be able to import infant formula from countries that have food safety standards equal to or better than the United States.

“We agree that imports should be an immediate priority to replenish empty shelves, but until the US domestic suppliers return to full capacity, your administration will be in Europe. We must ensure the rapid import of foreign prescriptions from credible trading partners such as the Union, Canada and Mexico. Others, “the letter said.

The letter also sets out some long-term goals.
