Ravens’ right-handed tackle, Patrick Mechaly, left the Cincinnati Bengals with a 41-17 defeat on Sunday after suffering an ankle injury early in the second quarter.
With 9:37 remaining, Ravens was dismissed by defensive tackle Larry Ogunjobi and defensive end Sam Hubbard after being pumped to 1st and 10th quarterback Lamar Jackson. When Jackson was knocked down to the ground, the mecha was rolled up from behind into a mountain of body. He was slow to get up, before he dragged off the field into the team’s medical tent.
After being evaluated there, Mekari went to the changing room, was listed as suspicious, and did not return to the game.
Ravens coach John Harbaugh didn’t have the latest information on the post-match mecha situation.
Mekari’s injury comes later Allpro left tackle Ronnie Stanley was excluded during the season After the third ankle surgery for the first time in two years. Stanley was sent off from the first week and was forced to tackle the left by veteran Alejandro Villanueva, and Mekari was inserted into the right tackle.
The Ravens attack line deals with several injuries. Backup’s right tackle, Tire Phillips, returned from the injured list last week after playing against the Las Vegas Raiders in the opening round of the season and injuring his knee, replacing Mekari on Sunday. Center Bradley Bozeman was actually restricted throughout the week with back problems while Villanueva was dealing with knee problems.
Mekari, a 2019 undrafted free agent from California, has made six starts and has appeared in seven games, and has been praised by Harbaugh for her ability to intervene and provide protection to Jackson.
