These families are on different continents,” said the Merced County Sheriff’s Office. Verne Wohnke told the Associated Press. “We have to show them that we can give them justice.”

The suspects then returned to the trailer used as a sales office, took Jasleen Kaur, who was carrying a baby in his arms, to the truck and drove them off before 9:30 am.

Hours later, firefighters on Monday found Amandeep Singh’s truck on fire in the town of Winton, 10 miles (16 km) north of Merced. A police officer went to Amandeep Singh’s house and his family tried to contact him and his wife. When they lost contact with the family, they called the sheriff to report them missing.
