Protect your animals during the holiday fireworks

Pittsburgh (KDKA)-Celebrations are a sensory pleasure for us when heading to tonight’s fireworks in the community or backyard, but what about our dogs?

Veterinarian Dr. Mike Hutchinson says fireworks can scare your dog.

“Most dogs are deadly scared because they can’t hear and understand the loud noises, so don’t take them to the fireworks display,” said Dr. Hutchinson.

Dr. Hutchinson also says that fireworks can scare dogs, bite them, and even come off their collars.

Dr. Hutchinson says the dog can be kept in the room or in a crate if fireworks are set off near the house. Music helps you hear something other than fireworks.

For horse owners, it’s a good idea to keep your animals on the stalls to keep them safe.

Cats are also sensitive to the loud sounds of fireworks and often react by looking for hiding places.
