Prince William Announces Statue of Princess Diana – NBC10 Philadelphia

Prince William and Prince Harry unveiled a statue of their mother, Princess Diana, at a small and brief ceremony at Kensington Palace in London on Thursday.

Diana’s family joined the two brothers for a ceremony in the Sanken Gardens of the palace where the princess once found comfort. This was the first time the brothers had appeared together in public since the funeral of their grandfather Prince Phillip.

The brothers later issued a joint statement, describing the strength and character of the mother as “the qualities that made her a force for good all over the world.”

“I wish she were with us every day. I hope this statue will be seen forever as a symbol of her life and heritage,” they said.

Statue sculptor Ian Rank-Broadley and garden designer Pip Morrison also attended the ceremony.

The statue is cast in bronze, capturing Diana in a casual dress, with three children standing beside her, and her arms extending around them. It is cultivated on a pedestal engraved with Diana’s name and paved stones with the lines of the “Man’s Major” poem that was also in the 2007 memorial program.
