Previously here: Biden is not a stranger to Wilkes, or the county

When President Joe Biden stops at Wilkes University on Thursday to discuss his administration’s efforts to reduce gun violence, it is not the first visit to Luzerne County or campus from Scranton.

The president previously visited Wilkes in the course of the 2016 campaign and then as the next Vice President who confused Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton. He also starred in Pittston Area High School in 2018..

On Thursday, Biden will speak at the Marts Center on the Wilkes Campus. The White House has not disclosed the exact time, and authorities have told Times leaders that the president’s visit to the Marts Center will not be open to the public.

However, according to Mark Riccetti Jr. of the Luzerne County Historical Society, who spoke with a partner on WBRE / WYOU-TV, this will be the latest in a long line of presidential visits to the city of Diamond.

Citing President Rutherford B. Hayes as one of his first presidential visits to Wilkes, Resetty Jr. said: -Bare.

“President Hayes stayed at the Wyoming Valley Hotel on River Street, so it’s a cliché, but history repeats itself,” he added.

In a release published Tuesday, the White House showed that Biden’s visit to Wilkes-Barre was focused on talking about bipartisan, safer community law-based efforts that were signed last month.

The law was signed a month after the deadly shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas.
