Two pink grasshoppers were recently spotted in Louisiana. Last weekend, Mary Vesic Poufanich found a pink grasshopper in her garden at Thibodaux. A second pink grasshopper was donated to the Audubon Insectarium in New Orleans on Tuesday. Hazel and Stephen Lewis of Hernville contacted sister station WDSU to tell them they had also found the grasshopper and donated it. Finding pink grasshoppers is extremely rare. The reason pink grasshoppers are so hard to find is because of their predation, according to Audubon Insectarium officials. Only two other cases have been recorded in the United States, according to reports from Kansas. Poofanich captured the grasshopper and brought it back to the Audubon Insectarium. Officials at the Audubon Insectarium plan to release the locust to the public.
