Peter Jackson reveals how to cast the Beatles on The Lord of the Rings | Celebrities

Peter Jackson would have cast John Lennon as the “Lord of the Rings” Gollum.

The 60-year-old filmmaker, who directs the new documentary series The Beatles: Get Back, has begun Fabfor’s plans to create a live-action musical film based on JRR Tolkien’s fantasy novel. Sir Paul McCartney, Sir Ringo Starr, John Lennon, and George Harrison played the leading roles to explore how the casting went.

In the “Late Show,” he told host Stephen Colbert: “Obviously Paul is Frodo, right? Sam is obviously an apple, so John is obviously Gollum.

“They cast themselves, and they did it right. Gandalf is the mysterious and magician George. It’s perfect. I know you have to get him a little older. Means.

“And if you had Gollum and four Beatles, John Lennon would definitely be Slam Dunk.”

In the end, the hit maker of “Hey Jude” didn’t get the rights to the movie, and Jackson later directed the big-screen trilogy.

Meanwhile, the director explained who Apple film producer Dennis Odell first had the idea, but that didn’t happen.

He told the BBC: “In the end, they didn’t get the right from Tolkien because he didn’t like the idea that the pop group would talk about him.

“They tried to do it. There is no doubt about it. For some time, they were seriously thinking about doing it in early 1968.”

Jackson admitted that he had “two hearts” about never making a version of the quartet.

He explained:

“But I told him,’Well, it was a musical, so it’s a shame you didn’t do that.’ What did The Beatles do with the Lord of the Rings soundtrack album?

“It was a 14 or 15 Beatles song and it was pretty incredible to hear. So I have two hearts about it.

“I wanted to hear the album, and I’m glad I had the opportunity to make a movie, but those songs would have been fascinating.”
