Perez leads the Pirates 4-2 over the Cubs

Chicago (AP) — Roberto Perez drove in three runs, Michael Chavis defeated Thailand in a home run in the fourth inning, and Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the Chicago Cubs 4-2 on Friday night.

The Cubs, a game that started nearly six hours late due to expected bad weather, was scored no points in the final seven innings by Pirates left-handed José Quintana and four rescuers.

The Pirates won two games in a row and the Cubs lost four games in a row.

Perez hit a two-run single for the second time, and the Cubs left-handed Drew Smyly (1-1) started the season with a 102/3 unscored inning. Perez expanded his pirates lead by leading fifth in his first home run of the season.

Perez recorded 3 at bats in the last 6 at bats after becoming hitless in the previous 10 at bats.

Michael Hermosillo snapped a 0-12 slump to start the season by hitting a two-run double second to explain the Cubs’ score.

In front of the two batters, Quintana was hit with his left foot by a line drive by Jonathan Villar, but stayed in the game. Quintana, who pitched to the Cubs in 2017-20, pitched 4 2/3 innings, hit 3, walked 3, and gave up three hits.

Pirates Relief has scored no more Cubs over 101/3 innings in the first two games of this four-game series. Chicago’s Nick Madrigal initially took second place at Thai Ingran, giving Chris Stratton a second save. Chase De Jong (1-0) won by throwing two scoreless innings.

Smiley threw 5 innings, struck out 4 and gave up 6 hits, 4 runs and 1 walk.

Seiya Suzuki hit a 0-10 rut in a single and started in 8th place, but relief David Bednar defeated the next three batters.

The rally ended when Willson Contreras embarked on his 17th double play, leading the Cubs Major League Baseball.

Ke’Bryan Hayes was the first to hit a single and is now 7 to 13 in four games against the Cubs, hitting them with a life of .362 (17 to 47).
