Signs at several locations in the Lehigh Valley honor the murdered Temple University police officer Christopher Fitzgerald.

Outdoor advertisers in and around Lehigh Valley honor Temple University police officer Christopher Fitzgerald, who died while on duty in Philadelphia.

Signs that feature a photo of Fitzgerald in uniform and say that he is “A Hero in Our Hearts Forever” are displayed on local and state highways. The son of former Allentown Police Chief Joel Fitzgerald, the 31-year-old police officer was shot dead while chasing a suspected robbery near campus on February 18.

The campaign was initiated by temple trustee Drew Katz, owner of Interstate Outdoor Advertising, and reached out to other businesses in the area.

Tony Cioffi, general manager of Adams Outdoor Advertising in Bethlehem’s Eastern PA, said his company has posted images on 19 billboards in the Valley. Displayed along Interstate 78, US 22, US 378, and American Parkway.

“It’s something we don’t want to do, but it’s the right thing to do,” Coffi told Morning Call, adding that the outdoor advertising company was quick to respond to Katz’s call.

“Drew Katz is a good guy,” Coffi said.

Coffi said he was asked to keep it at least for the duration of Friday’s funeral.

“When a policeman loses his life in the line of duty, we are all moved by this,” Ciofi said.
