Pennsylvania primaries show ‘historically low’ voter turnout statewide

Mercer, Pennsylvania (WKBN) — Voting ended Tuesday at 8:00 pm. pennsylvania primarya vote is being held.

Voter turnout was low across the region on this day. Mercer County elections official Thad Hall said today was a historically low polling day, with just over 20% of voters polling.

“We had a good election today. We didn’t have any problems at the polling places in the county. Turnout was relatively low, but it’s a phenomenon we actually see statewide,” Hall said.

Candidates fought for vacancies in three courts of appeals: the Pennsylvania Superior Court, the Federal Court, and the Federal Court. state supreme court.

In local elections, voters vote for various candidates such as mayor, city councilor, and school board. More than 100 elections were held for her in Mercer County, but most residents voted in only a few elections.

Hall said the Republicans had the most moves in the primary, with six Republican candidates looking to fill two slots in November’s commissioner’s vote.

Among several candidates running for Mercer County Commissioner, voters chose Republicans Ann Coleman and Bill Finley Jr. Mr. Coleman has served on various commissions and boards for the state of Western Pennsylvania. Finley was the Fire Chief of the Mercer Police Station.

“We have different skill sets, so we can work together,” Coleman said. “We are going to make a great team.”

“I’m very grateful to the whole team for working together,” Finley said. “We want to do good things for the prefecture together.”

Voters elected Republican Tim Callahan as sheriff of Mercer County. Callahan served as a deputy sheriff and retired as a police officer with the Pennsylvania State Police.

The following school districts elected school board members:

  • Admiral Perry
  • Farrell
  • hermitage
  • reynolds
  • Sharon
  • west middlesex
  • Wilmington

There was also a race for municipal positions, including:

  • Delaware Township Supervisor
  • mayor farrell
  • Grove City City Council
  • Hermitage City Council
  • Pine Township Supervisor (6-year and 2-year terms)
  • Sharon City Council
  • Chenango Township Superintendent

These candidates will remain uncontested unless someone submits them as independent candidates for the November elections. August 1 is the deadline to report as an independent to the election.

Voters in a particular constituency have decided that cross-party issues likewise.

In Sugar Grove Township, voters have decided to allow the granting of liquor licenses at privately owned golf courses.

In Salem Township, voters decided to allow small-scale luck games licensed within the township.

In Deer Creek Township, voters decided to grant permission to the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board to allow the consumption of malted beverage dispensers sold in the township on the premises.
