Pennsylvania is heading towards a total of 1 million positive COVID-19 cases

Harrisburg, PA (WHTM) — In just over a year, Pennsylvania is expected to pass a major milestone in one million confirmed COVID-19 cases.

Numbers come out as the state increases vaccinations. There are only a few thousand cases from the milestone, and there is an increase in cases in Pennsylvania.

According to the State Department of Health, there were 4,667 new cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday, the highest number since last month. Infection has increased by more than 10% in 2 weeks.

The state-wide total is currently 999,617. Of that total, the state says 93% have recovered.

What we don’t know is how many so-called “long-haul carriers” are. They are people who no longer have COVID-19 but suffer from symptoms such as brain fog and shortness of breath.

The state is also approaching a tough milestone. It is a little over 100 away from recording 25,000 deaths. There were 24 new deaths reported on Wednesday

Vaccinations are increasing after a rough and slow start. More than 1.5 million people in Pennsylvania are fully vaccinated.

About 84,000 people are vaccinated daily.

Vaccinations have improved throughout Pennsylvania. One or more vaccinations are ranked 17th in the country, but vaccinations for people aged 65 and over are ranked 46th.
