Parkland’s pitching excellence has been around for decades.
Bari-Lynn Pflueger, Krysta Pidstawski, Deanna Stinner and Aubree Fritzinger are one of the Trojan pitching legends that led the program to the state title.
It’s unfair to suggest that the current senior Ashlyn Hiran brand will do the same, but Thursday night the Hiran brand pitched Parkland to yet another league championship.
Behind Kate Zaun, who had a brilliant season in 2021 and a great freshman year at East Stroudsburg University, Hiranbrand threw four batters, and Evelyn Montone knocked two runs in eastern Pennsylvania. I won 3-1. Conference championship at the Patriots Park.
Parkland coach Barry Search said earlier this season that the Hiran brand fits most previous Trojan horse pitchers. She works hard, gets to work, and gets her job done without a lot of fanfare.
“She pitched well tonight, and she pitched well,” Search said. “I am very pleased with her progress and the progress of our children. They have come a long way.”
The Hiran brand has done its job with four strikeouts and one walk against top-seeded Northern Pton, who has won the last two Parkland victories.
She set the tone by handling the bass load no-out jam at the bottom of the first inning.
Consecutive errors started innings, and League MVP Taylor Clan Tree continued his bunt single.
However, the Hiran brand calmed down and took strikes to win all-league sluggers Devin Demchak and Kayla Zamadix, closing them when Lily Strudler flew to the center.
“That was a big deal for us,” Search said. “Northern Puton is a quality, well-trained team and we knew we had to play well. I’m happy with the kids.”
Driven by the escape, Montone tripled, starting the second top and scoring right from the Brenna Zavets single.
Parkland tacked two more in the third when Montone doubled to drive Cassidy Sweeney and Shana Grianlo in two outs.
Sweeney became a single and Grianro went for a walk.
The latest local and national sports news, and what’s happening in sports this afternoon and tonight.
This is the end of Parkland’s score, but three runs were enough.
Northern Pton avoided shutouts when Clan Tree and Demcak doubled six times in a row.
Zamadics continued his walk and Stuhldreher hit the pitch and loaded the base again, but Sweeney double-played as Sweeney caught on second base and threw it at Zavecz to finish the inning.
Northern Pton (21-2) went down 1-2-3 in 7th place.
Konkrete Kids lost in the league finals for the second year in a row, but when the 6A tournament begins next week, they will win the district’s gold medal for the second year in a row. As a second seed, Northern Pton will probably face freedom.
Parkland (17-5) not only won the 23rd league title and the 7th title in 8 years, but also became the top seed for the next tournament and could face Easton or Pleasant Valley in the quarterfinals. There is sex.
