West Chester, Pennsylvania (KDKA) —Born in Pennsylvania and graduated from Pennsylvania State University, Karl Nasib became the first active NFL player to announce that he was gay.
The Las Vegas Raiders defensive lineman announced on Instagram on Monday.
“I just wanted to take a moment and say I’m gay. I’ve been thinking about doing it for a while, but finally it feels good to take it off my chest. I’m really the best life I have the best family, friends, and jobs a man can ask for, “he said in a video from his home in Westchester. “I’m a pretty personal person, so I hope you all know that I’m not actually doing this to get attention. I think expression and visibility are very important. I will. “
Nassib also announced a $ 100,000 donation to the Trevor Project, an organization working to support LGBTQIA + youth.
“I hope someday the whole process of video and coming out like this will be gone, but until then, I’ll do my best to foster a compassionate and acceptable culture. And I We’ll start by donating $ 100,000 to the Trevor Project, “Nashib said in a video.
Following his announcement, Nashib received support from Pennsylvania State University teammate Sakuan Berkeley.
