OpenStreetsPGH event will be held throughout Pittsburgh

Pittsburgh (KDKA)-Thousands of cyclists and pedestrians hijacked the streets of Downtown, Strip District, and Lawrenceville this afternoon.

It was all part of today’s Open Streets PGH event presented by Bike Pittsburgh and UPMC.

Organizers said it was a great way to discover new things and areas in the city.

“Open Street Pittsburgh is about rethinking our city,” said Scott Bricker, Executive Director of Bike Pittsburgh. “By taking out the car [the streets]It really opens them up, so people can easily move by bike or on foot and enjoy these assets in a whole new way, “Bricker added.

This is the sixth year of the banned event, and the event organizers say it’s open to the public for free thanks to corporate sponsors.
