Newtown Township Police Report Increased Stolen Checks from USPS Mailbox – thereporteronline

NEWTOWN TOWNSHIP >> Newtown Police, along with police stations in other regions, is investigating an increase in potential check theft from the United States Postal Service’s independent mailbox.

According to police, stolen mail contains checks, which have been tampered with using a criminal technique called “check cleaning.”

To limit exposure, police are proposing to drop email into the USPS office instead of a self-contained mailbox. You should also contact us for expired checks that may not have arrived at your destination.

According to police, the US Post Inspection Office was advised.

Newtown Police encourages victims to call non-urgent phone numbers 215-579-1000 or 215-348-8524 to contact police and call them. Anyone who witnesses suspicious or future suspicious activity around the United States Postal Service mailbox will be asked to contact local police.
