Gorant Chocolates Suspends Production During Ownership Transition in Boardman, Ohio

Boardman, Ohio (WKBN) – Gorant Chocolates has ceased production at its Market Street factory pending sale to new owners.

The company announced the pending ownership change in a news release Tuesday night. The transition will be to local owners, but the company has not released any further information at this time.

After Mother’s Day, the Huntington Plaza company location will be closed and inventory will be consolidated at the 8301 Market Street company location in Boardman. Our retail stores will be open as usual.

Two licensee stores in Austintown and Howland are now operated under the Gorant brand. Both of these locations will transition to private, individual brands in the coming months, the company said.

Joe Miller, one of the current owners, said, “While the sale is still pending, we are confident that the new local owners will enhance the quality and tradition behind the Golanto brand.”This new team. already has a strong commitment and track record in Mahoning Valley.”

Gorant Chocolates was started in 1949 by Charles and Sam Gorant. A factory was built at 8301 Market Street and opened in 1977.

In 1982, Sam Gollant passed away. Four years later Charles Gorant sold the company. Charles has since died.
