Former Congressman Bud Shuster dies at 91

Commenting on Schuster’s passing, Rep. Jim Gregory of Pennsylvania said he was grateful for the former congressman’s legendary service.

“As we reflect on the life and legacy of President Shuster, we thank him for his service and support for the many projects in Blair County. Every time I drive, I am reminded of his commitment to infrastructure projects in Pennsylvania and across the country, as he earned his legendary status as one of the most powerful leaders in Congress.My condolences to his family and friends. ‘, said Gregory.

Bedford County Development Association president Bette Slayton said she was shocked and saddened to hear of Shuster’s passing. She explained that when the Congressman worked to bring businesses and jobs to Bedford County, she made a huge impact on her community.

“All the economic impact he has made for our region is his legacy. It plays in so many different arenas. He knows he can compete on a national level, attract world-class companies, and enjoy the work and the fruits of his labor. ‘ said Slayton.

Shuster was born on January 23, 1932 in Glasport, Pennsylvania. Before he served in Congress, he graduated from three colleges.

He received a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Pittsburgh in 1954, a Master of Business Administration degree from Duquesne University in 1960, and a Ph.D. from American University in Washington, DC. He also served in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1956.

He was elected as a Republican to the 93rd Congress on January 3, 1973, and served 14 times through February 3, 2001.
